HELLO, I'M ALEX.

LET ME HELP YOU BECOME AN INFLUENTIAL SPEAKER.

FIND OUT HOW >

WHAT IS PASS THE MIC?

Pass The Mic is a programme to help women gain more confidence using their voice.

You can choose between an on-demand course with recorded material to go through at your own pace, or a live, cohort based course which you'll go through with me and a group of 8 other women.

WHY DOES SPEAKING MATTER?

I have been a professional speaker for four years and if someone had told me at school that being able to articulate myself verbally would have the biggest impact on my confidence, earning power and ability to influence others, I would have practised every, single day.

If you join Pass the Mic, you will learn that there is an enormous difference between speaking to inform, and speaking to influence.

In my experience, it's rare to find training programmes that help us to talk about our ideas, beliefs, values or desires in a way that makes others sit up and take notice. What I have learned is that there is an enormous difference between speaking to inform, and speaking to influence.

Even if you have no aspirations to professional or public speaking - improving your verbal communication has a significant impact on daily interactions like speaking up in meetings, resolving conflict, setting boundaries, networking, pitching to potential clients, going for job interviews, or talking about the causes that matter to you.

IS IT FOR ME?

This course is for anyone who identifies as a woman and would like to improve their ability to express their beliefs and ideas.

You might want to join if you:

  • are looking for a new role and want to improve interview performance
  • are a freelancer or small business owner frequently pitching for new work, and/or networking
  • are an activist or campaigner seeking to get your message across more effectively
  • are required to give frequent presentations or sell to external customers or clients and do not feel as confident as you'd like to

LIVE OR ON-DEMAND COURSE?

LIVE COHORT BASED COURSE

You will be a part of a small group of women (eight maximum) in a safe, supportive and brave environment. There are seven 90 minute group calls, which will take place once per week in the evening, and roughly 2.5 hours of self study per week.

Each session will be facilitated by me, Alex, and you will also receive personalised feedback and support throughout.

You will be called upon to actively participate in the group calls. Authentic storytelling, speaking from the heart and truly owning your words, requires vulnerability and courage.

Join the live cohort if:

  • you are ready to commit to joining a call every week
  • you are excited to join a supportive social setting with consistent encouragement and a degree of external accountability.

Before joining the cohort, I speak with each person to check if it's the right fit.

BOOK A 30 MINUTE CALL >

ON-DEMAND COURSE

You will receive 12 audio lessons with accompanying self study exercises. You can choose when you do them. There is approx 2.5 hours self study time per week required.

You will also have the opportunity to buy a spot in the ad-hoc group sessions I run, where you can practice what you've learnt with a small, safe, non-judgemental group of women.

New skills and habits are best learnt in social settings, it's essential to put your new skills into practice when it's the right time for you and you're confident enough to be brave.

Buy the on-demand course if:

  • you can't commit to attending weekly group calls for 7 weeks but still want tools and ideas about how to improve
  • you're not quite sure about speaking in front of others yet, and want to test the water gently

RACHEL CROWTHER, FOUNDER, A DIFFERENT DUCK

Alex changed the way I feel about public speaking and reframed it as something that feels much more authentic. She helped me overcome some blockers and made me feel empowered to speak up. She was great to work with, and no nonsense which I really liked.

I'd definitely recommend her approach.

WHAT IT COVERS:

MANAGING YOUR ENERGY

The audience will feel what you feel. So whether it's a 1:1, or 300 people; before saying a word, you have to get to grips with what your body is saying.

EXPLORING YOUR CONTENT

What do you really want to say? Your unique take on a topic is what gives you the edge,  so we'll uncover where and why you might be self-editing.

NAILING YOUR KEY MESSAGES

The secret to speaking with ease is having your key messages locked down and embedded in your muscle memory - we'll cover how to get there.

UNBLOCKING FEAR

Fear is normal and it can be harnessed to improve performance,  but not if we get stuck in the story of past failure or perfectionism.

IMPROVING YOUR LANGUAGE

The devil is in the detail so they say and certain words, used consistently, reduce the clarity, coherence and confidence of our message - time to strip them out.

OWNING YOUR STORIES

Finally, putting together a speech: from start to finish - how to hook the audience, create a compelling story arc, prepare visuals and use your voice as a platform.

I signed up to 'Pass the Mic' because, though I'm thought of as confident and chatty, though I've spoken on panels and talks - even on the BBC's flagship Food Programme - I was still struggling to find my voice.

And it was more impactful than I could have dreamed. The slow, gentle stream of work allowed me to pace myself; knowing that the course was structured carefully allowed me to feel confident that my sharing of private, intimate and difficult emotions were being honoured by Alex's careful planning.

My highlights were hearing others talk, and receiving their feedback. One woman shared a difficult story about public speaking; immediately afterwards she was beaming and relieved. Reading my peer's feedback on my talks allowed me to believe: I have something helpful to say, it's worth sharing.

Now I'm posting weekly on LinkedIn, and my first post? Over 7,000 views (up from around 300-600). I've started offering free 1:1 brand chats to underserved groups, I'm volunteering with a prestigious group and I'm working out how I can scale this to share my story and grow my business.

TAKE THE MIC NOW

Improving your speaking is a gateway to more confidence in every area of your life. You'll find yourself able to hold boundaries more easily, negotiate for what you want, and resolve conflict. You'll build stronger relationships and you'll believe in yourself more.

As soon as I decided to invest in speaking coaching for myself, I wondered why I hadn't done it sooner. I noticed that people started treating me differently because I could hold my own, and communicate with authority. It was a total game changer. My ability to speak fluently and with passion about the work that I do, is the single skill that has allowed me to achieve more than I ever thought possible.
